Overview
Aether artifacts are devices that use aether magic in vehicles, trains, baths, ship lifts, river equipment, research tools, and communication tools.
In Ulzathir, Ozaith considered aether magic and artifacts sufficient. Zain ordered full research into engines similar to those of Haverloch. Thalassai windweavers made that work more urgent.
Applications
Windweavers use aether artifacts and aether-artifact engineering alongside sails, mage expertise, and sometimes essence engines. Thalassai trains use aether artifacts to fall forward, combined with essence-engine propulsion and opposite magnetism for smooth travel.
Aether engines are propulsion-focused aether artifacts. During a corruption storm, the boat carrying Kaelion and Zayren uses roaring aether engines. Zayren's aether magic pulls the vessel forward through hurricane winds, and Kaelion shields it from the storm.
In Stella Aeterna, aether artifacts move streams of bath water and keep the temperature comfortable. Around Chronasis, related aether-powered ship elevators move vessels up and downriver. Thalassai artifacts redirect river flow and aid merchant ships through equipment embedded in their hulls.
Zayren, a level nine aether mage, proposes making aether artifacts in Xalmyrra. The proposed artifacts would give general travelers safe aether-assisted travel. During later attempts to use the void route between Chronasis and Irrathis, Cyrena uses an aether artifact to exchange letters with Thalvian. The void remains dangerous. Thalena later turns to trains for world-spanning travel to bridge the world.
