Overview
Spellblasters are Rahmavir cylindrical weapons that capture spells or magical attacks inside physical containers and release them as portable weapon fire. Halvarim's industrial weapons district produces them in varying shapes and sizes, and Rahmavir soldiers carry them alongside anti-magic armor.
Design and Function
Spellblasters store captured spellwork in physical containers like skyship weapons. The wielder releases the stored spell from the device. Portable models include belt-carried cylinders, hand weapons with handles and long tubes, and compact devices carried in robes. Rahmavir also produces heavy versions for stronger attacks and experiments with models intended to channel Azarion's blasts.
Spellblasters can fire magical blasts, spells, physical projectiles, and corruptor projectiles. The corruptor shots use origin-magic effects: one fired by Eliona keeps moving through Thalena's frozen spell, marks her spellwork and body with red lines, and leaves invasive particles that disrupt her magic. Severin later fires red projectiles from a cylindrical weapon that disrupt spells mid-cast.
Development and Use
Rahmavir soldiers already carry portable cylindrical weapons during Thamrielle's visit to Rahmavir, when the devices compensate for soldiers with little visible essence or conventional magic. A specialized origin-disruption model develops after Alistair and the entity working with him use Boss's unstable origin magic to infuse a container. Raphael approves the resulting spellblaster and recommends that Eliona test it.
Raphael's later field forces use spellblasters as standard Rahmavir battlefield equipment. Kjeldan carries one during the Omberion operation, Raphael's guards wear them at their belts in Halvarim, and Raphael joins Kjeldan beside Boss and a row of spellblasters before the Battle of Valalav. Eliona and Severin use red projectile versions during the Battle of Valalav and Battle for Cyndarel.
Limits
Corruptor projectiles are difficult to produce. One Rahmavir origin-magic user can make them. Darkness barriers can counter them: Lythariel's barrier stops or neutralizes red projectiles, and Eliona expects to retreat if Lythariel returns.
