Character Network Timeline

Thalvian is a master engineer from Soltheris and the inventor of orreries.

Appearance and personality

Thalvian is wiry and carries tools at his belt. He often fidgets with them and bows nervously before powerful mages.

Magic and engineering

Thalvian's unique magic gives him unusual talent for constructing artifacts. He is a mage of little power, yet his engineering surpasses that of Soltheris's other artisans. His orreries collect and concentrate essence for stronger mages to use. He designed an orrery core to shield itself with the essence it gathered.

History

As master engineer at Zeydrith's Artisan Guild, Thalvian developed an amplifier for Aurion. He warned that it was untested; it shattered when Aurion tried it.

His first orrery let Aurion draw immense power. When black smoke approached its beam, Thalvian removed its cores, but the machine kept drawing essence. Brynor destroyed it, yet the beam persisted and the ensuing cataclysm devastated Soltheris. Thalvian survived and later rebuilt the device so it could be dismantled more easily. Aurion ordered more orreries made.

Relationships

  • Aurion: Aurion relies on his engineering and sponsors the orreries. Thalvian remains loyal to him.
