Overview
Ranan is the king of Myrravel during the Ulzathir-Myrravel march through the Plains of Eternity toward the source in the Eternal War. He is a distant relative of Aurelia and rules from Myriandel beside Queen Nuvyra after Aurelia's absence, using Sharuzh's maps and command plans to move Myrravel and Ulzathir's forces toward the source.
Publicly, Ranan justifies the Ulzathir-Myrravel march as part of the Eternal War to free Myrravel from Abraxas, the Oracles of Eternity, and the Plains. Privately, he joins Nuvyra and Sharuzh in killing Nadun near Myriandel's lake, blaming Nadun's death on Abraxas, and using that death to justify the march.
Magic and Combat
Ranan is a powerful divine mage. When Isandriel needs healing, he is the best nearby divine mage available, and his divine senses are strong enough that Viviana and Gren suppress their essence to avoid detection.
His magic includes divine sensing, a massive golden blast, voice enchantment, golden combat enchantments, and divine shields. During the ambush on Nadun, his golden blast collides with Nadun's cosmic barrier, and Nadun's counterattack strikes Ranan's shields with enough force to shake the city. During the battle near the source, Ranan directs Myrravel's troops from the center of the army, then fights Viviana and Gren directly with shields, kicks, and enchanted physical blows. Viviana's plasma blades leave only scorch marks on his shields. Gren relies on speed and compressed-air strikes to keep ahead of him.
History
By the time Viviana and Gren reach Myriandel, Ranan and Nuvyra already rule from the palace, welcome the arriving army, and review Sharuzh's route to the source.
In Myriandel's royal hall, Ranan dismisses courtly pleasantries and declares that Myrravel's time for freedom has come. After Nadun arrives, Ranan and Nuvyra secretly approach him and Sharuzh near the lake while Ozaith is absent through Nadun's shard. Ranan searches the area with divine senses, attacks Nadun, and fires the golden blast that collides with Nadun's counterattack before a colossal lake creature swallows Nadun.
Afterward, Ranan stands with Nuvyra and Sharuzh before the gathered forces while Sharuzh falsely blames Abraxas for Nadun's death. Ranan accepts the lie publicly and orders the forces to prepare immediately. As the army marches, he stays close enough to make escape dangerous, keeps Viviana and Gren under guard, and answers questions about the Plains while continuing toward the source.
During the battle near the source, Ranan focuses on Viviana and Gren long enough for Igor to trigger a landslide from below. After the battle near the source, the Ereshval army captures the surviving Myrravel and Ulzathir forces. Igor restrains Ranan beneath a splintered prison of rock, and Ranan is later taken to Rimvold's cells with Sharuzh and the other prisoners.
