Thurion is King Thurion of Soltheris, an ancient Xalmyrran ruler and immense cosmic mage active during the atraxi arrival. He invites Jorhan and Belanor to bring the atraxi before the rulers of their new world, seeks to bring their advanced knowledge into Soltheris, and later grows wary of them as their power and essence use expand. By Thurion's old age, the atraxi have constructed parks and much of the Luminary Halls in Zeydrith. Thurion is long dead before Belanor joins Xalmyrra's council, whose duties include monitoring essence overuse and managing spreading corruption, and Thurion and Xoltan belong to Xalmyrra's oldest recorded history. Thurion predates King Therion, the later Soltheris ruler who fathered Aurion and became emperor of Thalcoris.
