Xalatun is a Tenari city in central Thalcoris, west of Tequaltor. It stands on a golden savannah beside a river and answers to Tazarin.
Geography and layout
The city has walls, northern and western gates, stone streets and alleys. Jungle separates it from Tequaltor. The river provides another route to the city: aqura carry riders and tow boats along it. Seven essence towers stood around Xalatun before Lythariel destroyed one during the fighting outside the western gate. Some of the towers were abandoned.
History
The false war
Xalatun was one of the city states that formed Thalcoris. Most of the fighting in the Tenari false war took place around the city and its essence towers. Xoh'Metztli controlled the Tenari through the resonance songs of Aurivallis's priestesses, making them kill their own people. The towers gathered essence from the dead to feed darkness under her agreement with Xol'Zahir.
Zayren and Razen attacked Eira outside the city while under that control. Lythariel retaliated with darkness magic, collapsing an essence tower and devastating the savannah and large sections of Xalatun. Cassian killed Meliora and destroyed Xoh'Metztli's essence in Aurivallis, breaking the control over the Tenari.
Recovery
Tazarin directed the relief work. Amaril healed survivors, while Kaelion summoned suns to restore their strength. Earth mages rebuilt damaged structures, Zayren and the citizens cleared rubble, and Razen brought the river closer to the city. Splin carried supplies and moved citizens to safety. The relief work continued through the next two days.
