Vireen is a habitable planet in Valrindor’s solar system, farther from the sun than Valrindor. It was the destination of the Malverand Empire’s interplanetary colony expedition.
Geography
From space, Vireen has red landmasses, nearly black seas and a luminous indigo halo. Snowy mountains, deserts, storm belts and green regions cover its surface. Its air is breathable and dense, and its gravity is slightly higher than Valrindor’s. Orange trees have angular branches, and reflective green grass grows around them.
The ancient colony occupied a temperate region near a river delta and the ocean, with mountains inland. Fish and crabs provided food. Salt in the soil required the settlers to adapt their crops, and imported livestock began to change after arrival.
Ancient colony
Arcanis named Vireen while studying Valrindor’s solar system and selected it for the Malverand Empire’s interplanetary colony project. The expedition left in 1021 BX, led by Eira under the name Aruviel. Its enormous skyship powered by essence carried mages, researchers, builders, supplies and a gate intended to connect the colony with Valrindor.
The settlers hardened Vireen’s red earth with fire magic to make a dense metallic building material. They established a town, built smaller ships and prepared the gate. At that time, the planet’s reddish brown essence required adjustments to their spells. By 1011 BX, the colony was thriving.
Gate disaster
Michael crossed from the Aethrendar Gate and returned safely. The passage became unstable during Eremion’s return. Barachiel was attacked in the void and reached Vireen without his shard, dying there from the damage and exhaustion. Arcanis also reached the colony through the damaged gate, but its broken matter stabilization left him dying. Eira preserved their Malverand hearts.
The colonists restored limited use of the gate and kept it open. When two atraxi emerged, Dhalvor killed them with a cosmic beam, mistakenly accusing them of killing Barachiel because he sensed traces of the emperor’s magic on them. Eira took their bodies, the gate and the expedition ship back towards Valrindor, leaving the settlement behind. Aboard the ship, she revived the two with Malverand hearts and sent them through the void; they became Belanor and Jareth.
Malverand Intergalactic Empire
Vireen is a destination in the Malverand Intergalactic Empire’s transport network. Large ships can reach it from imperial Valrindor in a few hours.
Vireen is a habitable planet in the solar system of Valrindor, farther from the sun than Valrindor. It is one of the early colonies of the Malverand Intergalactic Empire. Its cities, starports and farms occupy the same world that the ancient Malverand Empire settled.

Cities and farming
Towers project liquid crystal shields over cities and farmland, protecting them against Vireen’s extreme storms. Imported animals resemble their Valrindoran ancestors but have adapted to the planet’s heavier gravity and denser air. Vireen has little essence. It was already low when the imperial settlers arrived, allowing them to build essence repellers and thrive.
Large ships reach Vireen from Valrindor in a few hours. The empire preserves ruins and texts from the ancient settlement, including Aruviel’s message that Barachiel and Arcanis died there. During her return with Isandro, Mike and Kaelion, Eira recognized the colony and her own message.
