Omberion

Overview

Omberion is the capital of Blackcrag and the royal seat of the Blackcrag Dominion. It is the city where George rules, where Garrik is raised as prince and heir, and where Blackcrag's council debates trade, diplomacy, fortifications, and Shroudvale.

Blackcrag's king, council, elite mages, engineers, skyship docks, and production facilities operate from Omberion. After Eremion's rise, the capital rejects Garrik, and Garrik targets it during the Siege of Omberion. The Siege of Omberion devastates much of the city and forces Garrik's retreat before he can take the capital.

Geography and Layout

Omberion stands within northern Valrindor as Blackcrag's capital. The surrounding approach includes fertile plains, forests, orderly towns and villages, a large river running toward the city, the Blackcrag mountains to the north, and at least one active volcanic peak close enough for Zhang and Khoradyn to divert lava toward the city during the Siege of Omberion.

The city uses wide volcanic streets and open boulevards. Blackcrag reserves city walls for fortifications against Shroudvale; Omberion relies on strong mages, layered shields, skyships, and resilient construction. During the Siege of Omberion, production facilities near the northwestern side draw defenders toward a lava diversion.

Design and Architecture

Omberion is built in Blackcrag's angular basalt and stormglass style. Its skyline includes dark volcanic-rock towers, spires, massive reflective windows, glass skybridges, and occasional gilded details. Polished volcanic roads, trimmed oak-lined boulevards, and large stormglass buildings give the city a clean, engineered appearance.

The royal palace is built from volcanic rock and stormglass with gilded accents. It includes a dedicated skyship dock, grand entrance, throne room, council chamber, dining hall, training grounds, and engineering areas used by Astrid. The council chamber has a large volcanic-rock table, stormglass windows or dome, and maps of Blackcrag and surrounding territories.

Society & Culture

Royal officials meet in the palace, engineers maintain skyships and essence engines, and scouts, skyship pilots, councilors, and powerful mages operate around the royal palace and docks. Citizens move through daily routines beneath the towers and skybridges.

Under Eremion, Blackcrag's strongest mages are consolidated in Omberion. Weaker mages are redirected toward farming, food production, and menial labor. Eremion spreads lies about Garrik from Blackcrag's capital, leaving the population and defenders hostile when Garrik's forces approach.

Government and Power

Omberion is the seat of Blackcrag's monarchy and council government. George rules from the city during Garrik's youth. The council sets policy, negotiates trade, plans fortifications, manages diplomacy, and debates Blackcrag's response to Shroudvale.

After Garrik flees before his coronation, Eremion uses the power vacuum in Omberion to become temporary regent and eventually permanent king. During the Siege of Omberion, the city is defended by Blackcrag forces, Kjeldan, and Rahmavir troops, weapons, essence cores, and skyships.

History

Omberion is already Blackcrag's capital when Nero brings the infant Garrik from Thiravos and Theryssa to George. George accepts the child into the royal line as Prince Garrik, and Garrik grows up, studies, trains, and prepares for rule in Omberion.

As Garrik grows older, Omberion houses Blackcrag's council, royal palace, skyship dock, and Astrid's engineering areas. He attends council meetings, trains under Astrid, studies governance with Ulrich, and departs from the palace skyship dock on his diplomatic mission to Morindel City. The strange crystal heart Astrid acquires from Morindel is studied afterward in Omberion and restores Eremion.

After George dies, Garrik remains a prince until his official coronation, and the council governs Blackcrag in the interim. Garrik flees Omberion the evening before the coronation. Eremion spends time with every council member, pushes policies through the council, becomes regent, and eventually rules Blackcrag from the city. His policies redirect weaker mages to farms, food production, and menial labor, consolidate skilled mages in Omberion, and prioritize efficiency, elite mage production, and skyship power.

After Garrik defeats Eremion at Maraveth, he advances into Blackcrag. Omberion becomes Garrik's next military objective. The city is shielded, supplied, and defended by Blackcrag mages, Kjeldan, and Rahmavir-backed skyships. Garrik's army breaks through the shields and enters the streets. A skyship detonation trap devastates the city and forces Garrik's retreat. The defense prevents Garrik from taking the capital. Half of Omberion is destroyed, and Garrik's front shifts into a stalemate around Cyndarel.
