Rahmavir

Overview

Rahmavir is a vast chosen-led nation of cooperating regions and tribal coalitions in northeastern Valrindor, bordering the Plains of Eternity. For centuries, its leaders try to control or close the source beneath Zarephon. Halvarim is its capital. Other cities and regional centers, including Garadon, have their own halls of chosen.

Rahmavir's role moves from the Rahmavir-Oracles war over the source to Raphael's alliance against the returned Order. Its chosen leaders try to seize, study, and close the source, field skyships and spellblasters, govern regional halls, and develop origin-magic research around Zarephon.

Geography

Rahmavir stretches across northeastern Valrindor. Its terrain includes southern coastland, indigo grass, teal rivers, plains, forests, lake cities, villages, farms, mountain approaches, and dangerous borderlands where the Plains of Eternity have forced the abandonment of cities over time. Meraldun is a southern coastal city with blocky dark-stone buildings, indigo grass, a teal river, and yellow-brown summer trees.

Its internal routes connect coastal settlements and cities such as Garadon to the river-and-lake capital of Halvarim. Older diplomatic and trade movement once passed through Zarephon. The Rahmavir-Oracles war over the source created new roads around the Plains. Myrravel fields armies alongside Rahmavir against the Plains, Serekhai promises a regiment to Rahmavir, and the Plains threaten Tharendur and Ashtarim as Rahmavir works to close the source.

Society and Power

The chosen are Rahmavir's governing and military leadership class. Rahmavir chosen include Zorath, Ravira, Kjeldan, Soria, Severin, and Alice. Zorath and Ravira are leading chosen of Halvarim, and chosen leaders from Rahmavir's cities gather when Rahmavir debates the source, the Order, and military movement beyond Zarephon.

Rahmavir's citizens speak of the source's immense power. Selected leaders know it as a breach to another world that must be closed to stop the Plains of Eternity. For generations, Rahmavir tries to seize or control the source.

Military, Magic, and Technology

Rahmavir's forces combine powerful mages with practical technology. Its soldiers and guards often use thin silver anti-magic armor and cylindrical spellblasters. Its sleek silver skyships use advanced design and magical propulsion.

Rahmavir also cultivates origin magic after gaining access to Zarephon and the source. The training is dangerous. A small part of the population can use origin-magic abilities effectively. The discipline is essential to Rahmavir's plans if essence-based magic weakens after the source is closed.

History

Rahmavir's source war begins after failed diplomacy among Rahmavir, Myrravel, and the Oracles. When the Oracles refuse to control or surrender the source, Rahmavir attacks the Oracles and suffers a defeat in which an army vanishes or is erased by Oracle power. The Eternal War continues through diplomacy, skirmishes, cultivation of stronger mages, and repeated attempts to reach Zarephon.

During the Malverand era, Thamrielle bases her campaign against the Plains and Abraxas in Rahmavir. Malverand aids Rahmavir for a long time. The Eternal War drains armies and keeps guardians fighting outside Malverand's own borders. Myrravel later fights on Rahmavir's side after the Plains threaten Myrravel and Nadun's death draws it into the war over the source, and the two powers send armies toward the source from opposite sides of the Plains.

Alistair later spends weeks and then centuries in Rahmavir. He studies its politics, embeds agents among the chosen, receives Rahmavir anti-magic armor, and joins Rahmavir's three-pronged attack toward Zarephon through the Plains. Rahmavir's three-pronged attack toward Zarephon fails under the Plains' distortions and the Oracles' power. Alistair eventually returns, rebuilds his network, and prepares Raphael's later push against Zarephon.

Raphael's faction eventually joins Rahmavir's final push against the Oracles at Zarephon during Abraxas's absence. Rahmavir secures Zarephon mostly intact, integrates former Oracle forces and knowledge, studies the source and origin magic, and opens a route between Rahmavir and Zarephon.

After Zarephon falls, Raphael uses Rahmavir as his base. Rahmavir's chosen, skyships, armor, spellblasters, origin-magic research, and allied forces are used in the Siege of Omberion, Alistair's surprise attack on Simon's Haverloch mages near Varnhallow, the Battle for Cyndarel, and Raphael's effort to control the source route. After Raphael and Zorath die and the storm devastates parts of Valrindor, Gabriel descends in Rahmavir, orders skyships to aid survivors, and expects Eliona and Ravira to lead what remains of their side.
