Astrid is a retired Blackcrag skyship engineer and divine mage. She helped raise Garrik, served as his mentor, and followed him into the Order of Thalion Zenith. She lives in Kaldaryn.
History
Blackcrag and Eremion
Astrid served on Blackcrag's council and developed its skyships. She encouraged the council to establish trade with Morindel and acquired a crystal heart from the regent Magnus during their visit.
In her workshop, the heart began drawing essence and drew more when Garrik approached. She brought it before the council and persuaded the members to remain nearby so it could repair itself. The heart absorbed their essence and rebuilt Eremion's body. Astrid then worked with him to improve Blackcrag's skyship engines, weapons, and defenses.
Garrik questioned Eremion's growing control over the council. Astrid defended the guardian, trusting his account of his rule during the Malverand Empire. Before Garrik's coronation, he left Omberion to investigate Eremion's history. Astrid caught up with him and chose to accompany him rather than return. Their skyship's engine had been sabotaged, forcing them to land in Shaoying. They abandoned the vessel and hired themselves out as mercenaries.
The Order and Kaldaryn
Isaac recruited Astrid and Garrik into the Order. Garrik was to gather an army and overthrow Eremion. Astrid blamed herself for restoring him and allowing him to seize Blackcrag.
She supported Garrik's army with healing and shields. As she grew older, she retired in Kaldaryn, where she helped build the city.
Relationships
- Garrik: Astrid raised Garrik alongside Ulrich. When Garrik left Blackcrag, she chose to remain with him despite her initial support for Eremion. She helped him build his new city and retired there while he continued gathering the strength to retake Blackcrag.

After Azarion and Eliona's attack on Kaldaryn, Astrid treated injured citizens. Eira brought her to the wounded Splin, who had lost two legs. Together they stopped the bleeding, but Astrid could not regrow the legs because she did not understand astragon physiology. She brought food and water while Eira continued healing the creature.
Splin later fetched Astrid to rescue Garrik from the battle against Gabriel. They caught him falling from the sky, and Astrid healed him as Splin carried them toward Kaldaryn. She refused to let him return to the fighting. After Eremion's death, she accompanied Garrik back to Omberion for negotiations with Blackcrag.
