The Vireen expedition was a Malverand colonization mission that left Valrindor in 1021 BX. Eira, then known as Aruviel, led the journey to Vireen, where the settlers were to establish a colony and connect it to Aethrendar Gate through a paired gate.
Preparation and Settlement
Arcanis developed the project, while Eremion arranged its personnel and resources. The expedition's ark had a metal-alloy hull reinforced with divine magic and essence cores, with god cores carried as power reserves. It used cosmic and fire propulsion and required manual navigation through mirrored optics and enchanted sight because Essence disrupted electrical and wave-based equipment. Eira served as its main pilot, with Dhalvor as her copilot. The crew included builders, healers and researchers, equipped for a long journey and settlement.
The ark landed near a river delta, an ocean and mountains. Vireen had breathable air, a heavier atmosphere and slightly stronger gravity. The settlers built with its dense red soil, cultivated food and used local fish and crabs. High salt content and unfamiliar conditions made some crops difficult to grow; residents also fell ill while adapting to local conditions.
Gate Failure
The paired gates were intended to activate ten years after departure. In 1011 BX, the Vireen gate connected to Aethrendar. Before the crossings, Khauren promised Eremion that an unknown being would deal with Barachiel, allowing Eremion to become emperor. Khauren instructed him to pass through the gate.
Michael crossed and returned safely. Eremion also reached Vireen, but the connection became unstable as he passed back through. Barachiel subsequently arrived dying after an attack in the Void. His severed hand and Spiral Shard returned to Aethrendar, while Eira preserved his heart after his death. Eremion blamed Arcanis for the failure, privately wondering whether his own deal had caused it.
The colony continued working to restore the connection. Arcanis later arrived through the damaged gate after becoming lost in the Void. Its matter stabilizer was broken, and he too died; Eira kept his heart and geometric core. On Valrindor, the guardians could not recover the missing leaders or build another interplanetary ship without Arcanis's designs.
Eira's Departure
Two atrians subsequently emerged through the gate. Dhalvor killed them, accusing them of killing the emperor. As settlers became increasingly erratic, Hrzai attributed their behavior to Vireen's Essence. Eira took the ark, the damaged gate, the atrian bodies and the preserved hearts, leaving the colony without its ship or gate.
During the return journey, Eira and Hrzai revived the atrians using Barachiel's and Arcanis's hearts. They became Belanor and Jareth. Eira sent them through the gate toward the atrian world, giving Jareth the geometric core.
Back on Valrindor, Eira concealed the gate underground near Lirathen and left the ark in Lake Velisyth, protecting it with a shield so it could be recovered later.

Rediscovery
Eira later visited Vireen with Isandro. He described ruins and old texts found there when his empire colonized the planet. Eira recognized her Aruviel signature on a memorial to Barachiel and Arcanis, wishing their hearts to live on. The ruins belonged to her former expedition, identifying this world as the Vireen she had once reached from ancient Valrindor.
By the time of the first Council, the ark had also been found in Lake Velisyth, still in decent condition thanks to its enchanted hull. It was intended to serve as a prototype for future vessels capable of leaving the planet, with further refinement planned.
