Role
The Vireen expedition is the Malverand Empire's first interplanetary colony project. It sends Aruviel and a specialist crew from Maraveth to Vireen, creates Malverand's first off-world settlement, and leads directly to Barachiel's disappearance from Valrindor.
Description
The expedition leaves Valrindor in 1021 BX aboard a colossal essence-powered skyship built through Arcanis's research. Aruviel is the main pilot, with a crew of mages, researchers, builders, healers, engineers, gate technicians, supplies, seeds, livestock, god cores, Malverand hearts, and a massive gate.
The crew lands near a river delta on Vireen, close to an ocean and inland mountains. The settlers build a red metallic town from hardened local soil, scout the surrounding world, adapt their food supply, and prepare the Vireen-side gate for a planned route back to Valrindor.
Ship and Gate Systems
The expedition depends on essence-powered navigation and life-support systems. The skyship uses an essence-core hull, layered enchantments, filtered and compressed air, onboard plants, enhanced mirrors, and explosive propulsion systems to survive the flight.
The gate plan requires heavy power from cores, the skyship, and specialist operators. Vireen has its own reddish-brown essence. Spells need adjustment there, and the gate becomes unstable after the failed Aethrendar crossing.
History & Origins
Arcanis names Vireen during Malverand astronomical research, and the planet becomes the target of Malverand's first off-world colony project. The guardians approve Arcanis's skyship-and-gate plan for the expedition. Eremion specifies which mages the expedition needs, how to organize resources, and how to handle unforeseen problems. Aruviel spends the preparation decade with Arcanis and Malverand researchers and engineers, then leads the 1021 BX flight.
In 1011 BX, the Vireen colony activates its gate as the matching Aethrendar Gate is tested above the Aethrendar Sea. Michael crosses safely and returns, and Eremion follows long enough to reunite with Aruviel before going back. When Barachiel enters next, the passage collapses into a black void, the spiral shard splits on Valrindor's side, and Barachiel reaches Vireen alive with fatal injuries.
The colony keeps trying to stabilize the damaged gate after Barachiel's death. Arcanis later reaches Vireen through the damaged gate route, already dying from his time in the void. After two atraxi bodies emerge through the gate and are killed, Eira removes the gate and the expedition skyship from Vireen. The original settlers remain on Vireen after losing the ship that brought them there.
Eira's choices on Vireen preserve Barachiel's and Arcanis's hearts, send future Belanor and Jareth toward the atraxi gates, and leave ruins and records that the Malverand Intergalactic Empire rediscovers on Vireen.

Secrets and Mysteries
Barachiel and Arcanis both reach Vireen and die there. Eira keeps their Malverand hearts, implants them in the two atraxi bodies that become Belanor and Jareth, sends both men toward the atraxi gates through the void, and hides the removed Vireen gate after returning to Valrindor.
