The geometric core is an artifact that went missing from the ancient Malverand Empire. It is a small object whose form appears to shift between a sphere, triangle and rectangle depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
Malverand's search
The guardians discovered it missing after the god-forger Arcanis disappeared. Raphael instructed Isandriel to recover the core or kill the god within it. Barachiel and Arcanis had managed the inventory more closely than the other guardians, but neither Raphael nor Michael knew who had taken it.
Jareth and Nahm
Jareth had carried the object since his arrival in Atraxis, keeping it for millennia without understanding its function. During his life as Jarin Jassaro in Haverloch, its structured form inspired his ideal of perfection for Axanaxa. He eventually gave it to Nahm, believing it better suited to the god than to himself.
Nahm was already a cosmic god with followers and a wielder before the gift. Afterward, the god and his followers became more intensely devoted to symmetry.

Nahm speaks through the shard to Virel and others nearby, using the connection to exchange information and coordinate Haverloch's affairs. The connection needs proper attunement: after leaving Varnhallow, Virel had to realign with Nahm before drawing fully on his power. Nahm's perception is also limited; he could not detect Eliona when she concealed her essence.
History
Arcanis carried the core to Vireen. After his body broke apart on leaving the void, Eira recovered it from his pockets. She later placed it with the revived atraxi who would become Jareth, then sent him through the void after Belanor toward Atraxis.

His divine essence returns to it after he descends into a physical body. The connection needs proper attunement: after leaving Varnhallow, Virel had to realign with Nahm before drawing fully on his power. Nahm's perception is also limited; he could not detect Eliona when she concealed her essence.
The core's quasicrystal structure does not depend on repeating patterns. Nahm's apparent symmetry comes from these nonrepeating patterns, which make him function. He had been a natural cosmic god before receiving the artifact; absorbing it made him partly constructed as well.

Thalena's account
In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, Virel died during the mission to Ithyreon. Xoh'Tenol later made a pact with Nahm and carried the geometric core in her palm. The bond let Nahm study her body while Lothar worked on decoding the geometric and star shards. Their work helped Thalena develop the structure of a protective veil around Valrindor. The small group around Thalena barely kept Nahm alive with their combined essence, but he ultimately preferred to fade rather than make another pact with Lothar.
