Overview

The Shaper Attack on Rimvold is the defense of Rimvold against Zharrek and the shapers of Shroudvale. Silas warns Sigurd that the shapers are days away, drawing the threat into his bargain for access to the gate beneath the city and his promise to serve Skarnheim. Sigurd prepares Rimvold's barriers, runic shields, runic weapons, shield mages, and strongest available fighters. Svanhild leads the vanguard, and Jin Leiyun covers shapers circling around the main line.

Battle

Rimvold's defenders fight in front of the walls to protect the city. Jin drains ambient essence and cores before the shapers can seize the same power, then devastates shaper groups with storm, lightning, fire, frost, water, wind, gravity, and shockwave magic. Jin's drain and the fighting outside Rimvold strip life from the land around the city.

Jin is stopped by Virel, a shard wielder whose magic redirects force and trajectories. Virel turns Jin's attacks aside, drives him down with redirected force and cosmic meteors, and nearly kills him before Sigurd intervenes. Sigurd halts a falling meteor, slows Virel, strikes him with ice and water, and forces him to withdraw. Halgarr carries Jin away.

Silas faces Zharrek directly. Zharrek attacks with divine enchantment, cosmic fire, meteors, and physical force. Silas answers with cosmic magic, veil magic, time-bent movement, illusions, and the void. Silas detonates empowered illusions close to Zharrek and hurls him into Rimvold's barrier. Zharrek refuses surrender, overloads, and disintegrates into radiant particles.

Aftermath

Zharrek's final attack leaves an asteroid falling toward Rimvold. Sigurd and Svanhild fail to stop it. Silas uses Zal'therak's power to pull it into the void. Rimvold survives. Silas and Zal'therak vanish with the asteroid and must find their way back through the gate network.

The victory breaks the shaper assault near Rimvold. It also leaves a dead, broken stretch of land around the city: the essence returns to the air. The ground remains scarred, one river is broken off, and Jin later redirects rivers to restore usable waterways. Long afterward, the area around Rimvold is still barren across a wide stretch, and the lake Jin made during his fight with Virel remains on the Rimvold battlefield.

Rimvold later faces the Siege of Rimvold, when Virel, Thorik, Zayren, and Lythariel oppose Zain's side after the route through Varnhallow opens.
