Massive yellow-orange birds are enormous, essence-rich flying creatures encountered in the Plains of Eternity.
Appearance
An adult encountered near Lake Eternity had a long beak, glassy black eyes and immense white wings as wide as a house. Its feathers glistened with yellow-orange essence, and its blood was golden-red. Its three chicks were fuzzy and round, nearly human-sized, with white beaks and no developed feathers.
Encounter in the Plains
During the ancient expedition through the Plains, Viviana and Gren tried to catch a chick for food. Its mother pursued them, firing blasts of compressed air. Kallion intervened with a sun spear, which the bird blocked with a divine shield. His following attack broke its wings and badly burned its body. The bird began healing itself, but Isandriel stopped him from killing it and healed its wounds after explaining that it had been defending its young.
The mother later landed on the expedition’s ship with her three chicks, sheltering them under her wings. She continued following the travelers and used air magic to fly with her chicks as far as Rimvold.

Vintergard
Xarion, Aelius and Jin Leiyun found a mother and two chicks in the mountain cave holding their ancient cosmic-blue flagship. The adult had claws infused with divine enchantments and appeared to guard the ship. When they restarted its engines, she folded her wings to clear the cavern entrance for their departure.
A flock of more than twenty birds attacked a Rahmavir skyship fleet crossing Vintergard. Their air blasts shattered one ship’s hull. Air mages rescued the falling survivors while Gabriel blocked attacks with ice walls and raised a snowstorm, allowing the fleet to escape south.
Xarion later acquired a pair of Vintergard birds for a nest atop the Valrindor Council building. Deylin suggested the name phoenix, which Xarion adopted. One of the birds circled above the building with white particles streaming from its yellow-orange feathers and perched on its highest curve.
