The palace is Maraveth's largest building, with many spires and towers surrounding a great central dome. Massive entrance doors open onto halls and stairs with red carpets and golden railings. Armed guards and laser defenses protect the building.
A meeting hall beyond large carved doors contains a curved table decorated in gold and red, silver columns and broad windows overlooking the city. Reinforced metal plates can seal its windows and main door, controlled from a panel inside.
Ships land on a large elevated platform outside the palace, above Maraveth's layers of streets and railways.

Core facilities
An elevator descends deep beneath the palace to a secured corridor leading into the vast domed core chamber. Cylinders, power generators and warp engines surround the red Maraveth core, encased in layers of protective glass. Metal bridges suspended from cables connect work platforms around it.
The researchers try to keep essence out of the machine and prevent it becoming sentient, since it can copy their spells. Shutting it down could disable systems across the empire. A gate in the chamber serves as a contingency if the core cannot be contained; researchers reroute power from a warp engine to open it onto the void.
History
Ancient core research
Before Isandro became emperor, Helena and Isandro developed the core in a concealed underground chamber beneath Hyperion's palace in Maraveth, with the council's approval. Hyperion destroyed a research station at the top of that palace and equipment in a separate demonstration chamber, while the hidden underground research continued.
Thalena's account
In Thalena's Shores of Eternity, an attack by the Spiral Mandate forced advisors, officers and researchers to evacuate through the core chamber's gate. Thalena ripped cables loose and redirected them into the void to give Oktlix access to the core. A red pulse surged through a cable, fracturing the protective glass.
On her return, the core chamber contained toxic air and ruined machinery, while the upper hall remained intact amid haze and rubble. Mike and Eamon first restored power to the gate and then rebuilt parts of the palace. Their work there supported the mission to retrieve Xoh’Tenol from space.
