Brighthaven

Overview

Brighthaven is an island nation in southern Valrindor. Radiance Prime is its capital, the seat of the Brighthaven Triarch, and Vianna's birthplace. The nation maintains isolation, strictly controls outsiders, and preserves ancient Malverand essence-driven technology: constructs, skyships, and military craft.

Geography and Capital

Brighthaven lies farther south in Valrindor and is reached by sea or skyship. Radiance Prime stands at the northern tip of the island, enclosed by sleek fortified walls and built in white stone, steel, and glass. The capital contains official docks, patrol routes, Radiance Prime Magic School, and the Spire of Triumvirate. Smaller towns and at least one modest city lie outside the capital.

Government and Society

Brighthaven is ruled by the Brighthaven Triarch. Isandriel once governed Brighthaven from Radiance Prime before leaving Alistair in charge. Under Alistair, the triarch is restructured around three seats: high technomancer, master artificer, and archscholar. Dalren held the high technomancer office under Isandriel; Alistair later leads as high technomancer, and Olivia holds the archscholar seat. By Vianna's youth, Alistair Voss is part of the triarch and eventually rules from the Spire of Triumvirate until Isaac and his allies overthrow him.

Public Brighthaven culture prizes progress, prosperity, study, vigilance, and suspicion of gods. Its schools teach that Pyrathalor destroyed Radiance Prime, and that history feeds the nation's isolation and military focus. Foreigners face strict limits, and access through the gates or to official areas can require triarch approval.

Technology and Trade

Brighthaven's constructs and skyships come from old Malverand technology that Pyrathalor stabilized and repaired during the fall of Malverand. Its constructs include civic machines, construct boats, aerial constructs, military defenses, and humanoid sentinels. Brighthaven-model skyships operate elsewhere in Valrindor, and a single weaponized version can level a small town.

After Alistair's fall, Brighthaven sells and exports constructs and skyships to mainland Valrindor. Kaldaryn obtains skyships for communication, Haverloch acquires Brighthaven vessels, and Brighthaven skyships fly over Bjarnholt. Its trade routes with Haverloch cities become more efficient. For the invasion of Thalassai, the new triarch promises Morozkaya constructs, ships, and flying vessels. Haverloch forces board ships prepared by Brighthaven.

History

During the Malverand era, Isandriel oversees southern Malverand from Durakarn and Brighthaven and uses Radiance Prime as his capital. Pyrathalor stabilized and repaired old technology there when Brighthaven became a nation, roughly three millennia before Vianna grows up in Radiance Prime.

Isandriel eventually withdraws from active rule and leaves Alistair in charge. In 2085 AX, a fire-and-frost eruption devastates Radiance Prime, collapses the Spire of Triumvirate, kills residents, and drives Alistair into a long campaign against temporal travelers and their godlike allies. Alistair and the newly formed triarch rebuild the capital, teach Radiance Prime's destruction as the start of Brighthaven's true history, and impose isolation, secrecy, and stronger defenses across the island.

Over the following centuries, Alistair builds a covert network inside the triarch's offices. Publicly, Brighthaven remains loyal to the story that Pyrathalor ruined the nation. Voss adds a warning that a fire-and-ice reincarnation of Pyrathalor will return, uses that warning to control Brighthaven, and later hunts Vianna during the Brighthaven Civil War because she matches the warning.

Vianna grows up in Radiance Prime. Isaac trains her at the magic school. Alistair's pursuit of her triggers the Brighthaven Civil War, kills Damian and Olivia, and forces Vianna's family into exile. Isaac later returns with Vianna, Pyrathalor, Kazimir, and Morozkayan mages; they enter through southern defenses, reach the Spire of Triumvirate, and end Alistair Voss's regime.

After the Brighthaven Civil War, a new triarch governs Brighthaven, recognizes Isaac's debt to Morozkaya, and turns the island toward renewed mainland alliances and trade.
