The Battle of Valalav was an ambush near the ruins of Arcanis Village after Varnhallow collapsed. Raphael, Eliona, and Azarion targeted the returning mages and used their wounded survivors to draw in Thalena. She escaped into the void with Deylin, while arriving allies drove off the attackers. The fighting damaged nearby Valalav and sent waves from the Navan Sea across the surrounding land.
The Ambush
Raphael and Eliona had prepared to strike when Varnhallow broke. Deylin's group emerged after three years away and saw an apparently intact village, but an illusion concealed the empty site. Azarion and Eliona attacked as the illusion fell. Isaac intercepted a blast aimed at Virel, losing an arm and part of his side. His companions healed him and fought back while Virel left to seek help.
Simon arrived with Haverloch reinforcements, but they too were defeated. By the time Thalena approached, the survivors were scattered around the battlefield with severe injuries.
Thalena's Rescue Attempt
Virel reached Rimvold, where Thalena was seeking Sigurd's help. She flew ahead while Virel brought Sigurd, Thorik, and Lythariel after her. By the time she arrived, Zhang, Anshar, Lysander, and Deylin were unconscious and critically injured. Their presence prevented her from unleashing attacks that would also kill them.
Azarion fired immense blasts of air and divine magic while Eliona concealed him with illusions. Thalena healed Zhang and Anshar and hurled them clear. After reaching Deylin, she released her hourglass shaped abyss spell, freezing things made of Essence. Eliona fired a red corruptor projectile from a spellblaster. It passed through the frozen air and shattered the spell, spreading red lines through Thalena's body and making her shields and healing unstable.
Azarion kept striking as Thalena protected Deylin. She pulled Isandriel's heart from Eliona's pocket and crushed the gate activator she had brought with her. The activator carried them into the void. There, she healed Deylin and expelled the particles that had disrupted her magic. With no gate activator left, they could not return immediately; Thalena sought a gate that someone else could open.
The Counterattack
Virel redirected one of Azarion's blasts back at him. Thorik's lightning and Lythariel's darkness then helped hold off his attacks. Eliona fired another corruptor projectile, but it had no effect when Lythariel blocked it with a darkness barrier. Azarion and Eliona withdrew.
Raphael sent a vast wall of ice across the battlefield, freezing fire, lava, and the waves breaking inland. Aldar arrived on Glin with Ilyra and Tazarin. Ilyra stayed to heal fallen Haverloch mages, while Aldar drew on the spiral shard to raise a wall of fire against the advancing ice. Virel reflected an ice projectile aimed at Aldar. The ice wall shattered, and Raphael disappeared.
Aftermath
Valalav's ground was fissured, roads were broken or washed away, and trees were knocked out of alignment, but most buildings remained standing. Haverloch mages held back the waves and helped survivors. Tazarin redirected the water with cosmic barriers, and Ilyra saved Simon and many others. Aldar was exhausted by the struggle and stayed in the city to recover.
At the meeting afterward, Zhang reported Isaac's death. Lysander explained that Isaac had not fully regained his connection to Tal'Massar when they were attacked. The surviving allies shared information about the guardians and arranged further cooperation. Raphael's group regarded Thalena's disappearance as an opportunity for their next campaign, although Aldar's arrival had prevented them from killing her rescuers.

Simon arrived with elite Haverloch mages, but Alistair, Rahmavir chosen, and members of his organization defeated them in another surprise attack. Their armor resisted magic, and Alistair's developed temporal magic helped secure their victory. Severin, Doss, and Boss accompanied him. The survivors of both attacks were left wounded around the battlefield.
