The Attack on Kaldaryn was an attempt by Azarion and Eliona to kill Kaelion after the ancient Order of Thalion Zenith returned to Valrindor. Their strike devastated part of Kaldaryn City and killed civilians and mages, but Kaelion survived and the attackers retreated. Isrynn died destroying their skyships.
Background
On Raphael's instructions, Soria scouted Maraveth, where the returning Order emerged from the Malverand vault. Azarion recognized Kaelion as a mage who had fought Eremion to a standstill. The attackers hastily decided to strike while the Order was weakened.
Strike and pursuit
Drendyll spotted four unfamiliar skyships approaching Kaldaryn and warned the city. Azarion fired a golden blast from a large metallic cylinder, combining divine and air magic. It obliterated buildings along a path toward Kaelion. Splin's starfield broke under the attack but prevented its full force from reaching him.
Drendyll evacuated Kaelion in his skyship while Splin and Astheron shielded them. Eliona concealed the pursuing ships with illusions, letting them vanish and reappear during the chase. Isrynn protected Drendyll's vessel with a temporal shield. A later blast broke through the defenders' barriers and severed Splin's astragon wing, sending her and Astheron falling.
Isrynn drew essence from the surrounding world and repeatedly blinked through the enemy ships. Her attacks disrupted the concealment and shattered the vessels, but her body cracked under the strain. After destroying the last ship, she broke apart in white light.
Azarion and Eliona continued pursuing Kaelion without their ships. Drendyll jumped out through a window before Eliona boarded his vessel. Kaelion deliberately misfired a sun spell, blowing up the skyship and buying time for help to arrive. Nahm descended and redirected Azarion's next blast. Remus caught Kaelion and took him to a village, then joined Virel in fighting the attackers. Remus injured Eliona with vector magic while Virel distracted her; she regenerated and fled with Azarion. Simon killed another pursuing mage, and the allies captured Soria.
Aftermath
Eira and Astrid stabilized Splin after finding her injured in her frog form. As Eira recovered essence, she gradually reformed Splin's missing limbs. Astheron pursued the exhausted attackers and forced them to the ground; they finally left after Eira identified Eremion as Azarion's father.
Kaldaryn repaired the damaged city and maintained watchtowers and aerial patrols. The Order later released Soria, who explained how the reconnaissance had led to the strike. Azarion subsequently apologized to Kaelion for Isrynn's death and Splin's injuries, and Kaelion accepted the apology as a first step toward peace.
