Overview
Thalcoris is the northern Tenari nation of Xolterra and, after liberation, the sixth region of Thalassai, with Tazarin holding the archon of cosmos seat. It has dense jungles, aether magic, resonance magic, and older city-states. Its cities include Tequaltor, Aurivallis, Chalxata, and Xalatun.
Eira, Kaelion, Cassian, Lythariel, and Splin first reach Xolterra through Thalcoris, where Zayren intercepts them and brings them to Tazarin in Tequaltor. Their arrival exposes the hidden control over the Tenari and leads to Cassian's destruction of Xoh'Metztli's essence.
Geography and Cities
Thalcoris lies north within Xolterra. It includes dense jungle, rolling hills, mountain routes, coastal cliffs, savannah, river country, and roads between its cities. Tequaltor is the capital and Tazarin's seat, Chalxata is the primary port and trade hub close to Tequaltor, Aurivallis lies farther north in a valley, and Xalatun stands inland on a savannah near a river.
Older travel between Aetherion and Thalcoris crosses open wilderness. After liberation, Thalassai and Thalcoris negotiate through Ziyara. A new road is constructed between Aetherion and Thalcoris. Sea routes connect Chalxata with Thalassai ports such as Thalmyris.
Society and Magic
The Tenari are the people of Thalcoris. Tenari culture honors Xoh'Tenol, the sun god, and Xoh'Metztli, the moon goddess. Xoh'Tenol is revered across Thalcoris. Aurivallis houses Xoh'Metztli's moon shard, moon clergy, and the Temple of Resonance.
Aether and resonance magic run through Thalcoris's schools, temples, towers, and city-state politics. Tequaltor's school trains mages for combat and public service, Aurivallis has divine and resonance mages, and Thalassai later seeks aether, divine, and resonance mages from Thalcoris for rebuilding and defense.
Thalcoris is wary of darkness and of outsiders who carry marks from Xol'Zahir. When the Xalmyrran travelers arrive, Ziyara calls for Eira and Lythariel's execution, and Tazarin threatens to imprison the two darkness mages unless the group helps Thalcoris.
Government and Power
Thalcoris was formed from city-states including Tequaltor, Xalatun, Chalxata, and Aurivallis. Tequaltor is the imperial capital, and all Tenari city-states answer to Emperor Tazarin. Aurivallis retains its own free city government within the Tenari empire and maintains only light day-to-day contact with Tequaltor.
Tazarin rules as emperor and carries Xoh'Tenol's sun shard before the god chooses Kaelion. After that choice, the Tenari recognize Kaelion as the future emperor of Thalcoris. Tazarin remains the active ruler and later becomes Thalassai's archon of cosmos.
After Cassian frees the Tenari from Xoh'Metztli, Tazarin opens negotiations with Thalassai. Thalassai leaders negotiate trade, road construction, supplies, and mage deployments with Tazarin and the Tenari. Thalcoris formally joins Thalassai, and Tazarin takes the sixth archon seat as archon of cosmos. Tazarin continues governing the Tenari region in practice.
History
Thalcoris began with the ancient Xalmyrran migration into Xolterra. Its ancestors once tried to reunite with Xalmyrra, and Orin, Khoradyn, Therion, and Xandor are named among the founders of Thalcoris and Thalassai. The Therion among those founders belongs to a previous Xalmyrran cycle; the later Emperor Tazarin is the current-cycle King Therion whom Xoh'Tenol summons to Thalcoris.
Before Cassian frees the Tenari, Thalcoris lives under Xoh'Metztli's resonance-based control. The Tenari believe the Xolterra War is an old external threat to Xalatun. Xoh'Metztli uses moon voices, priestesses, and the moon shard to make Tenari kill other Tenari near Xalatun. Tazarin resists the control around his own mind. When a moon-shard wielder dies, Xoh'Metztli chooses another.
Cassian breaks Xoh'Metztli's control in Aurivallis by freeing Arinella, killing Meliora, and destroying Xoh'Metztli's escaping essence before it can pass to another vessel. The control over the Tenari collapses. Thalcoris is traumatized and free.
Afterward, Tazarin, Razen, Amaril, Zayren, Ziyara, and Kaelion stabilize Thalcoris and rebuild damaged cities. Thalassai windweavers, new roads, trade talks, and mage deployments strengthen the recovery. During Nerissa's Invasion of Xalmyrra, Tazarin brings Thalcoris reinforcements to Xalmyrra, with Razen, Amaril, and Ziyara beside him, and raises starfield barriers against Gabriel's attack on Erenmyr.

Secrets and Mysteries
The false war in Thalcoris is maintained through Xoh'Metztli's control over the Tenari. Previous attempts to kill her wielders fail because she chooses another vessel. Cassian ends Xoh'Metztli's control by killing Meliora and destroying Xoh'Metztli's essence before it can escape, freeing the Tenari and changing Thalcoris's place in Xolterra.
