Overview
Aetherion is Thalassai's air-aligned region and main high-plateau city. Air magic runs through its infrastructure and public life through windweavers, skylorns, and the Palace of Air. Zephyra, the archon of air, governs Aetherion.
Geography & Layout
Aetherion is set high among clouds, cliffs, and layered plateaus. The surrounding lands include open plains and grasslands where wind moves visibly across the terrain. It lies on the route between Chronasis and Thalcoris. Later development adds roads connecting Aetherion to Thalcoris, Chronasis, and Terranova.
Design & Architecture
The city is built into and atop its plateaus, with spindly towers and structures resembling natural extensions of the cliffs. Its spires include storm-controlling skyship technology.
Palace of Air
The Palace of Air is Zephyra's towering palace in Aetherion. It contains baths with heated water, lounges, rooms for meals and rest, and wide arched windows overlooking Aetherion's stormy skies.
Outside the palace, wide courtyards hold almost invisible currents of wind magic, and windweavers can land nearby. Zephyra brings Kaelion, Cassian, Arinella, and Thalena there during their Aetherion visit; later, Arinella and Ziyara stay at the palace, Astryx brings the wounded Cassian back there so Arinella can heal him, and the group gathers outside the Palace of Air before splitting again for Chronasis and Thalcoris.
Society & Culture
Aetherion is known for flight, windweavers, skylorn races, aerial duels, skylorn meat, and skylorn milk trade. The city is cool, high, and wind-filled, and Zephyra hosts travelers there.
Government & Power
Aetherion governs itself under an archon and joins archon meetings alongside Chronasis, Pyrenis, Terranova, and Thalmyris. Zephyra governs it as archon of air after Lunorax resigns from that office. Marcellus later carries military responsibility for both Terranova and Aetherion as an imperator. Zephyra remains Aetherion's civil archon.

History
In earlier Thalassai history, Helena studies Aetherion and destroys traces of Malverand history. After leaving her life with Flavian, she moves near Aetherion and makes a home outside the main city among windswept rocky plateaus. There she bonds with a skylorn and continues destroying Malverand records and remnants.
Aetherion later intervenes to enforce peace between Terranova and Pyrenis after surviving Ozaith zealots drive the two regions into war. During Helena's engineered internal wars, Chronasis officials blame Aetherion for damage that looks as if air magic caused it. Helena also razes a small town in Aetherion and releases a nearby lake to drown its people, shifting suspicion toward Thalmyris and keeping the Internal Thalassai War active.
Jin trains with Zephyra in Aetherion and studies her wind-magic techniques. Kaelion, Cassian, Arinella, and others are later brought upward to Aetherion, where Zephyra hosts them and offers them a windweaver. Arinella and Ziyara spend time there during negotiations involving Thalassai and Thalcoris, and Cassian is later sent to Aetherion so Arinella can heal his chest wound within the Palace of Air.
After the Attack on Pyrenis, Aetherion is untouched; Cassian sends Hadrian there to gather spare legions for rebuilding Pyrenis. Later, Cassian asks whether Aetherion will be fine before giving Zephyra military and messenger assignments after the Solvarria and Pyrenis Campaign and Nerissa's Invasion of Xalmyrra.
