Overview
Spin is Maric's giant cuddly frog and later astragon. Thalena names her in Erenmyr while living among the frogs; Spin is a water mage who can command the swamp's waters. Spin later follows Maric and Renneth through the swamps with Gin, bonds with Maric, and becomes his companion and mount.
Traits and Abilities
Spin is intelligent, affectionate, and strongly water-aligned. She communicates through croaks, telepathic impressions, and body language, and her name reaches Maric through the bond. As a frog, she carries Maric overland, channels water magic to propel the Shanari-bound boat, steadies it through storms with Maric, conjures water, and begins teaching Renneth water magic.
As an astragon, Spin has starlit, iridescent, wet-looking scales and massive wings. She can carry riders, fly independently, exchange roars and croaks with other astragons, and guide allies toward places or dangers she senses.
History
Thalena knows Spin before Maric does and trains with her alongside Glin, Splin, and Gin. When Renneth and Maric enter Erenmyr's swamps, Gin and Spin take an immediate liking to them and carry them through the marshes.
Spin joins Aldar's northern diplomatic mission with Maric, Renneth, and Gin. She reaches Shanari by boat, draws attention in Hanamizu, and chooses to remain there with Gin when the two frogs decide they would slow Renneth and Maric down.
Spin later reunites with Maric near Qarezh after evolving into an astragon. She and Gin guide their riders away from their original route, then split paths; Spin flies toward Ulzathir while Gin carries Maric west. Spin later arrives with Splin near Ishtanur, where their warning leads Aelius and Simon to order a retreat. After Raphael's forces clash with Garrik's army near Cyndarel, Spin also flies to Rhylois while the astragons warn cities and try to rescue allies.
