Hanamizu is the coastal capital of Shanari, an island north of Thundermarch. Its painted timber buildings stand a few stories tall beneath red and black roofs. Essence lanterns light the city, and wide streets pass between large pink flowering trees. Long wooden bridges extend into the ocean among bulky timber ships and lighter windships powered by air mages.
Arashiiwa is Hanamizu's clan leader. His large black timber hall has deep overhangs and a garden with waterways and fishponds. The hall's essence detectors use modified divine spells intended to detect hostile entities and alert guards. Visitors from mainland Valrindor are rare because of the ocean crossing.
