Phariel was Thamrielle's second-in-command and one of her strongest warriors. He fought with her in Rahmavir against the Plains of Eternity. Abraxas killed him, forcing Thamrielle to flee. When she reported his death to the other Malverand guardians, they agreed to withdraw from Rahmavir and concentrate on defending their own lands.

Thamrielle left Phariel in command when she returned to Malverand. He also accompanied her to meetings with Rahmavir's chosen leaders in Garadon.
An envoy from the plains requested an audience with Barachiel on Abraxas's behalf, warning of a destroyer coming for the emperor. Thamrielle killed him, taking the warning as a threat. Phariel questioned whether the killing was necessary, then accepted her explanation and agreed to clear away the remains.
A century later, Phariel and Thamrielle joined Rahmavir in an attack against the plains. When Abraxas appeared, most of their mages withdrew. Abraxas told Thamrielle "one for one," referring to the envoy. Phariel, Thamrielle and several chosen stayed and attacked him together. Abraxas used essence reversal to escape their attack and killed Phariel, reducing him to dust. Thamrielle fled. His loss helped prompt the guardians' decision to withdraw from Rahmavir.
