Shanari is an island nation north of Thundermarch, near Thiravos and Theryssa. Its capital is Hanamizu. The ocean separating Shanari from mainland Valrindor makes journeys between them difficult.
Settlements and Trade
Hanamizu has wide streets, red and black wooden buildings, pink flowering trees and smaller waterways and fishponds. Arashiiwa leads its clan. Essence lanterns light the city, while divine spells modified into essence detectors warn its mages of hostile visitors.
Shanari trades with the neighboring island nations and receives delegations from Thiravos. Bulky timber ships use Hanamizu’s ocean port. Smaller windships fly overhead, made from lightweight materials and powered primarily by air mages.
Island Tradition
An island tradition recounted by Damarra names Shanari among the islands formed when an ancient wielder of Nerissa divided a continent to isolate its people. The wielder died from overloading in the process.
Mainland Relations
Shanari had largely ceased contact with the mainland because of the long ocean crossing. Scouts sent on behalf of Eremion tried to enter Hanamizu unnoticed, but its detectors caught them. Shanari declined to join his war after Nerissa's wielder warned its leaders to keep away from the mainland.
When Renneth and Maric brought news of Xalmyrra and work on faster airships, Arashiiwa expressed interest in diplomatic relations. Kazehiro undertook a journey to mainland Valrindor on Shanari's behalf. Arashiiwa and some of his clansmen also joined Nerissa's expedition against Xalmyrra.
