Valrindor Atlas Timeline

Kaldaryn City is the capital of Kaldaryn in Central Valrindor, governed by Garrik.

Geography and architecture

The city rises in terraces at the foot of a mountain range, overlooking open plains. An essence tower stands nearby. Massive dark stone walls surround angular buildings of stone and wood, combining the wooden architecture of Irrathis with the fortifications of Varentis. Buildings vary in height and size according to their function.

The government occupies a large timber building supported by steel beams and decorated with carved woodwork. Markets and merchant traffic fill the streets, and skyships dock on an elevated platform near the city wall. Fire and air mages keep snow at bay and warm the city during cold mountain weather.

A southern road runs through Borovia.

History

Khoradyn and his army founded the city, building it in weeks chiefly with earth and water magic. Migrants, traders and refugees joined the settlement. Khoradyn handed leadership to Garrik, who named the city and its protectorate Kaldaryn.

Transport

Garrik agreed to Thalena's proposed railway network while keeping Kaldaryn's mages committed to the front lines.

Khoradyn and his army founded the city, building it in weeks chiefly with earth and water magic. Survivors of the shaper assault on Hengzhou accompanied the army east and became part of the new community. Migrants, traders and refugees from across Valrindor joined the settlement. Earth mages cut a path outside the walls while fire mages shaped metal into rails. The tracks and station site remain under construction.

Airship attack and hurricane

Azarion attacked from airships while pursuing Kaelion, destroying buildings and killing civilians. After the attackers left, mages cleared debris, healed the injured and repaired the city. Most repairs were completed, and Garrik ordered watchtowers deeper in the mountains.

When Azarion sent a hurricane across Valrindor, earth mages lowered the city underground. Maric helped form the protective stone ceiling, then raised and reinforced pillars under Garrik's direction. Essence lights illuminated the sheltered city. It was raised to the surface again after the storm.

Statues of Khoradyn and Zhang stand in the central square. A memorial deep in the mountains lets people from across Valrindor record the names of those they have lost.

Thalena’s account

In Thalena’s Shores of Eternity, a massive earthquake collapsed the mountains and consumed much of the capital. Garrik overloaded during the disaster.
