Overview
The Atraxis system is the ruined origin system of the ancient atraxi civilization. The Spiral Mandate destroyed the living civilization there through power or technology the refugees experienced as void-like blackness consuming their dying sun and world. The Spiral Mandate's destruction of the Atraxis system drove the atraxi exodus and left Jorhan fearing the void; Amos later uses Malverand imperial theories, atraxi gates, warp-drive breaches, Mandate data, and the entity he encounters inside the void to investigate the system's destruction.
Geography & Layout
By the time Amos revisits the system during that investigation, its star has died. The ship exits warp into empty space at first, then detects Atraxis Prime Alpha, Atraxis Prime Beta, and Atraxis Prime Epsilon when Amos sends signals through the surrounding space.
Atraxis Prime Gamma, Atraxis Prime Delta, and Atraxis Prime Theta are Atraxis planets. Atraxis Prime worlds include old-system worlds, atraxi colonies, and expedition destinations reached during the collapse.
Imperial starchart data places the old Atraxis system 270 light-years from Valrindor, north-northwest of the imperial center at roughly -92.3 X / +253.7 Y. Proxion lies about 313 light-years from Valrindor and roughly fifty light-years from the old Atraxis position, making Proxion the nearest imperial edge system to the old atraxi ruins.
Design & Architecture
Atraxis Prime Alpha was once dominated by advanced black symmetrical structures with white accents and functional design. The Atraxis planets supported spaceships, gates, and interplanetary governance.
Civilization and Control
The atraxi civilization held planets across the Atraxis system and sent expeditions in search of livable worlds. Those expeditions were meant to build gates after reaching safe destinations.
The system was historically controlled by the atraxi. The atraxi planets within their domain operated independently.
After the fall, Jorhan warns about the force that destroyed the system, Amos researches the ruins, Belanor recovers memories of Alpha, Malverand develops theories, and the Spiral Mandate becomes the leading suspect.
Features & Locations
- Atraxis Prime Alpha, the atraxi homeworld Amos chooses to visit during his later expedition.
- Underground cities on or within Theta.
- Ancient atraxi gates that open through the void, along with expedition routes from the original collapse.
History
Before the atraxi reached Valrindor, the Atraxis system was home to a multi-planet civilization. When the Spiral Mandate's attack consumed the atraxi homeworld in void-like blackness, Jorhan, Eshmir, Amos, Jareth, Belanor, and the remaining atraxi fled aboard a ship and through gate technology.
For millennia, Jorhan protects Valrindor from whatever destroyed the Atraxis system. He once blamed the gods, later doubts that explanation, and knows of a being within the void.
Amos and Thalena make a forbidden trip to where Atraxis Prime Alpha used to be so Thalena can send gate-schematic fragments backward through time.
Amos gains access to Malverand imperial theories about the system's demise. In those theories, the Spiral Mandate is the aggressor: it exploited and exhausted planetary resources as it expanded.

Secrets and Mysteries
The Atraxis system's destruction sends the atraxi into exile and leaves Jorhan guarding Valrindor against whatever destroyed his homeworld. The destruction leaves a dead star, detectable worlds, void signs, Spiral Mandate evidence, and atraxi expedition survivors beyond the old system.
