Overview
Thorik of Bjarnholt is the gruff, battle-hardened leader of Bjarnholt, a southern Valrindor land with Stormhaven as its capital. He is a lightning and runic mage within the Skarnheim Alliance. He joins Sigurd in Kaldaryn negotiations, relays Bjarnholt intelligence through Skarnheim channels, and later leads Bjarnholt forces in the push against Zain's occupation of Rimvold. His most recognizable weapons and tools are a massive battleaxe wreathed in lightning and a rune-carved mechanical arm.
Appearance
Thorik looks like a weathered front-line veteran, with broad shoulders, a heavily white-streaked beard that is later shaved white, and a bald head. His mechanical arm is carved with runes, moves with a metallic hiss, and carries stormlike essence. He commonly wears armor in military settings and keeps his axe close.
Personality
Thorik is blunt, loud, impatient with political delay, and protective of Bjarnholt. He presses Valrindor leaders to send mages and reinforcements when the darkness surges into his lands, challenges explanations that do not address immediate danger, and distrusts darkness magic until Lythariel proves what she can do. He is also hospitable and grateful: he welcomes Eira, Jin, and Kaelion in Stormhaven, refuses to duel them because he fights darkness beasts, and repeatedly thanks Lythariel for saving Stormhaven.
Abilities and Equipment
Thorik uses lightning magic and runic magic in combat. His massive battleaxe carries storm runes, crackles with blue lightning, and doubles as weapon and flying platform. He rides the axe, carries Lythariel on it, and commands Bjarnholt runic mages who travel on enchanted weapons and shields.
In combat, Thorik hurls the axe into enemies, calls lightning through it, sweeps it through haze, and sends lightning for Virel to redirect. His runic craft also extends beyond his axe: after Thalena's sword is recovered, he carves runes into it to lighten the weapon by drawing on its essence.
Thorik's mechanical arm is a powerful runic prosthetic with exceptional force. He lost his original arm when he was young and too close to the darkness, before strong enough divine mages were available to heal him.
History
Thorik leads Bjarnholt through the sudden expansion of the darkness, which costs his lands territory, lives, and safety around Stormhaven. In Rimvold's councils, he pushes Sigurd and Valrindor's leaders to send mages and reinforcements against Bjarnholt's darkness surge, then returns south with Lythariel and Bjarnholt mages so she can hold the darkness back.
He later negotiates with Kaldaryn alongside Sigurd, proposing an exchange of mages and runic techniques. When Vianna, Virel, and Halgarr come to Stormhaven, Thorik grants passage through Stormhaven Strait after Haverloch and Morozkaya agree to take in Bjarnholt refugees. His runic magic lets Lythariel cross the seas to Thalassai with Thalena's belongings, and he combines that magic with Astryx's aether magic to move the heavy bag.
During Varnhallow's attacks and Zain's occupation of Rimvold, Thorik fights beside Lythariel, Virel, Sigurd, Aldar, Glin, Remus, Zayren, and allied forces. He carries Lythariel on his axe during the response to Thalena's call, strikes a powerful attacker with the weapon, joins the search of the gate beneath Rimvold after Thalena and Deylin vanish, and brings Bjarnholt forces into the push against Zain's occupation of Rimvold. After Ulzathir abandons the city, Thorik reclaims Rimvold and begins restoring Skarnheim while Lythariel prepares to rejoin him.

- Lythariel: Thorik deeply values her defense of Bjarnholt and Stormhaven, praises her stand against the darkness, and carries her on his axe during urgent travel across Valrindor and to Thalassai.
- Sigurd and Svanhild: Thorik, Sigurd, and Svanhild act as allied Valrindor leaders while Skarnheim faces Varnhallow attacks, Zain's occupation of Rimvold, and the darkness surge.
- Halgarr: Halgarr is the liaison who brings Vianna and Virel to Thorik during the Stormhaven negotiations.
- Virel: Thorik cooperates with Virel in diplomacy and the push against Zain at Rimvold.
