Wilfred was the divine patriarch of Luminaris in Varnhallow and a member of Eltaru's inner Order. He resigned in favor of Xarion and died when Xarion and Aelius intercepted him on the road to Astralynne.
History
Luminaris and the patriarchs
In his younger years, Wilfred blessed the people and encouraged their hopes for the city. His failure to bring about meaningful change led him to withdraw from public life, though he remained respected. Rhyzmar served under him, and Frederick was his closest advisor. Wilfred was an old friend of Benedict Frost.
Resignation and death
Rhyzmar recommended Xarion as Wilfred's successor. Wilfred endorsed him at a banquet, accepting his claim to be a divine patriarch and praising his help to the citizens. He then left for Astralynne to report to Eltaru. Xarion feared that this meeting would expose his deception and went after him with Aelius.
Xarion stopped Wilfred's wagon and revealed himself, but hesitated to attack. Wilfred recognized him as an outsider. Aelius launched white fire from behind; before it reached him, Wilfred overloaded and dissolved into white particles. Xarion and his companions blamed the resistance for his disappearance.

Wilfred was an old friend of Benedict Frost. At Eltaru's instruction, he took care of Kazehiro no Hyojin after the mage became a patriarch. He also taught Eira and Kaelion to govern Halcyra, showing them how to manage the city and its attendants, and returned to check their progress. Later, he reported an increase in timerifts near Luminaris and informed Eltaru that replacement patriarchs would be needed when Eira, Kaelion and Jin left.

Wilfred had lost his wife, children and grandchildren to a timerift shortly before Xarion arrived in Varnhallow. Old and unable to continue fighting, he had volunteered to serve the Order to the end. Benedict later explained this to Thalion, who had not known about Wilfred's loss.
