Windweaver

technologyvehicle

Windweavers are flying vessels made in Thalassai to carry people and goods. The Thalassai also call them balloons.

Construction and Operation

The vessels have polished dark wooden hulls reinforced with light metals and sails made from skylorn hide. Air mages direct wind into the sails, while aether artifacts help power flight. Crews steer the ships, guide their ascent and descent, and bring them to elevated docks. They can also float and travel as boats.

Use and Development

Windweavers carry passengers, cargo and soldiers between cities. They also provide a vantage point for scouting and observing distant places. Exploration could not find a route through the western oceans.

Cyrena proposed improvements to their speed, continuing Thalassai's development of the vessels.

Use and Development

Windweavers transport passengers, cargo and soldiers, and serve as scout and coastal patrol vessels. They are more capable than the vector voyagers used in Haverloch. Exploration could not find a route through the western oceans.

Cyrena proposed improvements to their speed. Their technology also helped shape Thalena's train designs, intended to connect cities without depending on dangerous Void crossings.

Improved models combine sails and artifacts with essence engines. Their greater speed supports long journeys beyond Thalassai, including ocean crossings.

Use and Development

Windweavers transport passengers, cargo and soldiers, and serve as scout and coastal patrol vessels. Range depends on supplies as well as the vessel's capabilities: shortages halted scouts sent far north. Exploration could not find a route through the western oceans.

Cyrena proposed improvements to their speed. Jareth studied Thalena's aerodynamic designs and worked on enhanced propulsion, still trying to overcome thermal regulation problems. Windweaver technology also helped shape Thalena's train designs, intended to connect cities without depending on dangerous Void crossings.

Windweavers are flying vessels made in Thalassai to carry people and goods. Their designs range from sailing ships supported by magic to faster vessels driven by essence engines.

Construction and Operation

The older vessels have polished dark wooden hulls reinforced with light metals and sails made from skylorn hide. Air mages direct wind into the sails, while aether artifacts help power flight. Crews steer the ships, guide their ascent and descent, and bring them to elevated docks. They can also float and travel as boats.

Jareth's newer model has an aerodynamic white and violet hull, partly made of metal, with no sails. Large windows surround its cabin, and a small deck sits at the rear. Essence stored in its cores, hull and engine supplies its propulsion. Controlled from a helm and wheel, it accelerates hard enough to throw passengers against their seats. Steering requires practice; Jareth refused to let an inexperienced Eira take over because she could crash the ship.

Development

The Nexus Research Center developed the vessels from simple air balloons into ships using aether magic and sails. Cyrena proposed improvements to their speed. Jareth later studied Thalena's aerodynamic designs and worked on enhanced propulsion, initially struggling with thermal regulation. Improved sail vessels incorporated engines before the newer model dispensed with sails entirely.

Windweaver technology also helped shape Thalena's train designs. She planned the rail network to connect cities without depending on dangerous Void crossings. The newer flying model was built in a similar way to the train.

Use and Limits

Range depends on supplies as well as the vessel's capabilities: shortages halted scouts sent far north. Early exploration could not find a route through the western oceans.

Individual vessels carry protective equipment. Jareth used cosmic shields to take the newer model through a storm. It could fly higher than vector voyagers.

Use and Limits

Windweavers transport passengers, cargo and soldiers, and serve as scout and coastal patrol vessels. Thalassai exported older sail models to Xalmyrra, where they flew alongside local airships. The Thalassai also used them to collect delegates for the Valrindor Council.

Range depends on supplies as well as the vessel's capabilities: shortages halted scouts sent far north. Early exploration could not find a route through the western oceans. Even upgraded ships must navigate around dense corruption; crews trained for these conditions include air and fire mages.

Individual vessels carry protective and observation equipment. Jareth used cosmic shields to take the newer model through a storm, and a mounted enchanted glass let him see farther than Cassian could sense. Protection does not make the ships invulnerable: some windweavers were destroyed by the essence detonation near Pyrenis, although Jareth's ship survived after being knocked far away.
