Void Ray

magic

Void rays are thin black attacks used by Abraxas. They emerge from voids and spatial fractures, pierce bodies and shields, and can detonate after striking their targets.

Capabilities

Abraxas directs the rays with dragging, pointing and zigzagging hand movements. They can appear from the sides of a battlefield, split into branching arcs and erupt from several voids at once, cutting off escape routes. Abraxas described the underlying magic as using particles like Essence, but with different properties.

Use

During Abraxas's battle with Thalion and Ozaith, rays forked across the battlefield and burst from voids in the sky. They tore through layered shields and hurled Thalion into Qarezh. His impact ruined the city, and the trailing void rays then detonated, vaporizing it.

Abraxas also used the technique for controlled excavation. While opening a passage through mountain stone with Thalion and Eira, he formed spatial fractures and sent rays through the rock, carving it and breaking it into fragments.

Void rays are thin black origin-magic attacks used by Abraxas. They emerge from voids and spatial fractures, pierce bodies and shields, and can detonate after striking their targets. Other practitioners and imperial weapons technology produce similar black-ray attacks.

Capabilities and Limits

Abraxas directs the rays with dragging, pointing and zigzagging hand movements. They can appear from the sides of a battlefield, split into branching arcs and erupt from several voids at once, cutting off escape routes. Their magic uses particles with different properties from Essence. The rays can carry no Essence signature, giving a target little warning through Essence sensing.

The attacks can break layered defenses, but penetration varies. Ravira and Soria fired black lines that splintered the first two layers of Xarion's cosmic barrier without penetrating it completely. Those casts were almost too fast to track, yet lacked Abraxas's ability to follow him and box him in.

Imperial Black Rays

Isandro demonstrated a black-ray attack using technology carried by only a few people in his empire and mainly integrated into its weapons. The attack read a shield's frequencies: it passed through Eira's solid divine shield, but fizzled and ricocheted when she made the shield uneven and continuously wavering.
