Overview
The Sword of Arcanis is Thalena's silver artifact weapon from the War of Scars and the final fight against Jorhan. She forged it from compressed, charged essence cores and used it as both a blade and a large stored essence reserve.
Properties
- The sword stores essence like a compressed essence core and can absorb essence from essence-tower charging artifacts.
- Its silver blade is inscribed with constellations, cosmic glyphs, and divine enchantments.
- When charged, it shines like liquid light or moonlight, with star-like patterns burning across the metal.
- Its weight depends on its stored essence. Caius fails to move it during charging, Lythariel needs shadow tendrils to lift it after Thalena's fight against Jorhan, and Virel can barely carry it after Thorik carves runes into it. After Thalena spends much of its reserve, the sword becomes light enough for Cassian to lift easily.
- Thalena channels aether magic through the blade, producing strikes that tear or collapse the air, or leave voidlike trails.
History
Before the Xalmyrran cycles break, Thalena mines and charges the sword's cores at an abandoned essence tower. Recharging the weapon after use at that scale would take years.
During Thalena's fight against Jorhan, Thalena rides Glin in astragon form as Arcanis and uses the silver blade to break shields, carve through air, deepen craters, and drive Jorhan toward defeat. Alongside the star shard, the sword supplies stored essence as Thalena ends the cycles and the darkness fades.
After Thalena's fight against Jorhan, Glin leads Lythariel, Thorik, Virel, and Sigurd to the sword in the muddy battlefield. Thorik adds runes that lighten the weapon by drawing on its essence, and the group carries it through Rimvold. The sword eventually reaches Stella Aeterna. It is a compressed essence core and supplies part of Thalena's Jorhan-scale magic.
Thalena also uses the silver sword against Eremion, channeling aether magic through a slash that tears the atmosphere and destroys a skyship attack.
